The Federal Government's Environmental Practices

My federal government, you ask? The federal government is going green, and it has a plan.
Right now, "going green" is trendy. Individuals pick to carpool instead of commute solo. Whole countries (Costa Rica, for example) decree to become carbon neutral.

The White House Council on Environmental capability (Ceq) manages the plan for the federal government going green. The Office of the Federal Environmental executive (Ofee), under the auspices of the Ceq, defines six areas in which the federal government defines environmental goals: High performance and Sustainable Buildings; store amelioration straight through Acquisition; Pollution arresting and Recycling; Electronic Stewardship; vigor Efficiency and Renewable Energy; and transportation and Fleet Management.

Those six areas are integrated into each agency's Environmental administration law (Ems). Each Ems provides a strategic framework for integrating environmental priorities into its operational, planning, and administration decisions. In January 2008, President Bush mandated federal agencies to implement environmental administration systems at "all acceptable facilities and organizational levels."

The Federal Government's Environmental Practices

You are far more likely to visit a federal construction than you are to read a copy of any agency's Ems. The federal government owns or leases more than 505,000 buildings. The new Centers for Disease operate headquarters in Atlanta, Ga, exemplifies the five law of "Federal Leadership in High performance and Sustainable Buildings." These law include optimizing vigor performance, improving indoor environmental quality, and reducing the environmental impact of materials. Features of the construction include permeable paving; water range for the drip-irrigation law sourced from the stormwater detention pond; low-flow plumbing fixtures; day lit interior spaces; photo sensors that turn off electric lighting when it is not needed; and variable-volume air delivery.

Because the federal government has so much purchasing power, it can generate viable markets for environmentally responsible products. The seven components of the federal government's green purchasing plan include recycled article products; vigor Star®/Federal accident administration program (Femp)-designated products and renewable energy; alternative fuel vehicles/alternative fuels; biobased products; environmentally preferable products and services; non-ozone depleting substances, and low or non-toxic and perilous chemicals.

Pollution arresting and recycling are primary to the federal government going green. Federal agencies strive to recycle at least 35% of their solid waste, along with construction debris, tires, and metals.

Federal agencies rely on electronics, as do most businesses and homes. Notable federal accomplishments related to electronic stewardship include donation programs; computer recycling; streamlining the administration of cathode ray tubes, and model electronics stewardship programs.

By focusing on vigor efficiency and renewable energy, the federal government realizes large-scale savings. Federal agencies do this straight through reduced vigor consumption; increased use of renewable energy; reduced fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas/propane; reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and decreased carbon emissions.

The vehicles that do the enterprise of the federal government are pivotal to its environmental goals. Federal agencies are foreseen, to demonstrate that at least 75% of new car acquisitions are alternative fuel vehicles.

As these examples of the federal government going green demonstrate, the government is applying great vigor to its goal of using less energy.
